I knew from the time I was a teenager that this was where I wanted to live. Place, therefore, is of primary |
| importance to my work. As a landscape painter, my poems often have a strong visual component. Family, too, is often present in my work. Swimming, cross country skiing and running are all passions which keep me out in the two thousand acres of town land around my home. |

My work pivots on a kind of reciprocal regard, of noticing the world around me, and being seen and revealed to |
| myself in the process. A dream that I had twenty years ago sums up the focus of my work: I was a raven, soaring over the familiar hills and lakes of my town, even right through the town hall - as if to embrace and celebrate all aspects of the town, its wild and human communities. My work is a claiming of my rich life as artist, mother and community member. Moving for two years to Costa Rica offered further examination of these same concerns in a place both remarkably like and unlike Eaton. |

| Fogel and Cleopatra Mathis. My main poet companion is Kimberly Cloutier-Green, with whom I have had an invaluable correspondence for a decade. I took wonderful classes from MeKeel McBride and Charles Simic at UNH from 1998-2001, and graduated with an MFA in poetry from Warren Wilson’s low residency program in 2006. |

Treehouse Poems (1998) When I was 21, I lived for a year in a treehouse. The following year I dove into learning bookbinding as a vocation, but it took another 21 years for me to make the poems into this book. 54 page commercially bound paperback, sewn on acid free paper.
